I grew up training in ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, and lyrical, but recently, I have been taking ballroom dancing classes. I love taking the time out of my day to exercise and destress through the art of dance – regardless of style. Another hobby of mine is pageantry. I currently hold the title of Miss International 2018. I am able to travel around the world to promote the International Pageant System and my non-profit organization, BRAVE. When traveling, I really enjoy trying to new cuisine and learning about the local customs of certain countries and/or cities.What made Kaylee such an invaluable addition to the Class of 2019?â€Å"I run the MIS Department’s MIS Advisory Board that connects our department to the business community. On the Board, I include a small number of students to help plan and execute various Board-related events. The students also take on projects to improve the MIS department. Only the best MIS students are invited to app ly and only a few of those are invited to serve on the Board.In Fall 2018, Kaylee became a member of the Board. She was invited based on her academic excellence, outstanding service accomplishments, and an interview in which she demonstrated exemplary poise and presence. Her performance on the Board was so good that I invited her to be the coordinator of other students on the Board – a very high recognition and honor.As a Board member, her ability to work with people has been demonstrated in leading other student Board members, interacting with students and Board members, and giving presentations and leading discussions at Board meetings. After one of her presentations, several Board members asked her to apply for a position with their companies (she had to tell them that she had unfortunately already accepted one). I tell our students on the Board that they are the â€Å"face† of the MIS program and Kaylee fulfills this role perfectly.As coordinator of students on the Board, Kaylee is responsible for helping interview student applicants, scheduling our internal meetings, planning and executing Board meetings and other events, making sure that all student-related tasks are completed on time, and generating new ideas for what can be done. In general, she does an outstanding job of â€Å"making sure the trains run on time.† And she does this in a friendly and cooperative way.Kaylee was also the creator and executor of our Department’s new MIS Coffee Series, where we bring small groups of students to together to have informal conversations with MIS faculty members. She is currently expanding the scope to include senior Board members in the MIS Coffee Series. In the past Britain used to be a patriarchal society, however, now it is hypothetically equal. The gender-role identity is the extent of masculine or feminine self-appreciation of an individual (McNeill Petersen, 1985, cited in Fromme Eccles, 1996). Masculinity and femininity described by Deaux (1984) as personal characteristics, activities, behaviours, dispositions, appearances which are acceptable for males or females and established by sociocultural factors, while sex refers only to the physiological dissimilarities. Per biological supposition, gender is fully defined by biology, particularly, by the physiology (work of the nervous system) and inheritance (genetic factor) (McLeod, 2014). On contrast, psychodynamic paradigm primarily focused on conscious and unconscious stimuli within the individual and psychosexual development with an emphasis on early childhood experiences, like the main factor of gender formation (Brannon, 2016). Some people look to their grades, level of completion, or what school they attended. It took over 1 million people to build. It hard to explain its size without posting pictures. As soon we approached it and got in it I immediately respected the people who built it. Yeah it’s a huge wall. A lot of people don’t understand that the wall is built on top of basically a mountain ridge. It is only oft high, but If a person falls of they are rolling down the mountain side. Also a lot of people Including myself thought It was flat on top almost like a road. Once we walked and crawled to the end we were daring enough to explore past the part of the wall that still being kept up and tapped foot on the original wall. This wasn’t Just any market the market was strictly for knock-off or look alike items. This market really put my bargaining skills to the test. The market was 4 floors of vendors each floor was as big as the Kirby Lounge. They had everything from pearls to statues. Every vendor started at a price and through his market Ryan and I really honed our bargaining skills. Some of the things we did we questionable, but effective. First things first you have to walk away at least twice. And keep walking the first time. They are really persuasive. They all think that we are â€Å"dumb† Americans and don’t really know what the price should be. So Just keep saying a lower price and stand firm on the price. They always can go lower. Sometimes it takes a good 15 minute argument, but it’s satisfying knowing you paid the lowest price possible. Another trick we did which kind of upset a few people was elk to multiple venders. Play the â€Å"Over there well she said this price† game. Those weren’t the only awesome things we did in Beijing, but if I talked about them it all it would literally take me three days. After Beijing we went to Tannin. Tannin was amazing. We spent 2 weeks there studying business and visiting businesses. I learned a lot about the Chinese culture in those two weeks from the tours, classes and the people we met. Instead of talking about the businesses and classes I would rather talk about the friends I made there. I learned a lot from them and they are the most memorable part. ICC, Iris, Tony, Niles, Jon, Jason, Lisa, and even Terry the club owner were all great people. Miss ICC was great she was out going and bubbly and really help us break the ice with the other Chinese students when we were together. She taught us all about the dating life. She was interested in older men because they were more mature and set in life. I feel like this is a common thing over there. Her friends called her Superwoman on the account f that she was great at sports. She even took the time to teach Ryan and I few things about tennis. I don’t think there is any hope for me in that sport. Tony was an interesting little guy. He taught us about how is China it is really is frowned upon to fail. That is why there aren’t a lot of entrepreneurs there. He also helped me order a few times. He was interested in our gun laws compared to his. I never noticed that it was illegal over there to own a firearm. I Just thought of it as a nonchalant thing. He was very intrigued when I was telling him about hunting and the rights we have as Americans. Niles was awesome we got along very well. I don’t think you ever met him Dry. L’, but he was a world traveler from Germany. He wrestled in Minnesota during high school, went to college in France, studied abroad to China where I met him, on his way to south Asia for a month and then to South Africa for his last semester. He taught me a lot about how to communicate effectively with the Chinese. He had decent mandarin, effectively and how to be really respectful to the Chinese. He kind of inspired me to travel a lot more. Life’s too short not to travel the world. Little Jon and Lisa were awesome too. They showed us everything and brought us everywhere. They were basically our guides around Tannin. They taught me about how the schooling and grades were actually set up. They explained that it is really hard to get into college, but once you’re there it is basically a pass/fail. They took the time to show us around during their finals week which they would have otherwise spent studying. They broke the stereotype that all Chinese students do is spend their time in the library studying and never have any fun.. They even came out with us a few times and let loose, which was awesome to see. Jason did a good Job showing us around the city and explaining things. He let us have enough room to branch out on our own and explore stuff on our own which I think was the best part. It was cool meeting him and his family. I still remember his contagious laugh after he would crack a Joke. Terry the manager of the club still Heehaws me very once in a while Just to see how America is and how life is. He actually seems like a pretty nice person. After we left Tannin it was a sad goodbye, but it was exciting to start traveling again 2 weeks was plenty enough time to spend in the city of Tannin. The next city we went to was Wax. We met our new tour guide there named Joe. He went to school for Tourism and English and was originally from Wax. In Wax we visited the Tiger Hill pagoda which was one of the most beautiful places we had visited in my opinion and a Tea pot museum. The pagoda stood 7 stories tall and was built to honor and emperor. The emperor was said to have been buried with 7,000 swords. Wax stands for no more Iron. Wax used to be full of iron and was fought over because of it. It used to be a battle ground because of this precious metal, but once it was gone the city was named Wax Just to make sure no one would come back. It’s hard to explain the beauty of all these laces. I guess that’s why I took almost 1,000 pictures. The Tea Pot Museum was amazing. I love interesting facts and learning about random things like the teapot. The tea pots in it represented Chinese culture and history. People dedicated their lives to the art of Tea Pot making and we learned about the process of how the pots were made, History of the material, what makes a good quality Pot, and how they should be properly used. I had to buy one. I bought the 2nd lowest grade of pot, but it is the most traditional. It doesn’t drip and can be perfectly balanced in water. After Wax we went to Ouzos then Hangout. One was known for its green tea and the other for silk. I had to buy some of both. They made great gifts for my girlfriend.. I could go on and on about the shows, tours and places we went, but I would be writing for over a month. I will have to end my reflection by talking about the food. The food was amazing I had the expectation that I would like it, I never thought I would miss it. In fact I’m pretty sure I gained a few pounds over there from it. Lets start with the breakfast. MBTE is highly flammable in liquid form. There is a distinctive taste and odor associated with MBTE. This makes it easy to detect MBTE in drinking water. In its vapor form MBTE can be broken down by sunlight and quickly evaporates from open containers. MBTE can leak into the underground water supply and can stay there for an indefinite amount of time. MBTE may or may not build up in animals, but there are some acute and chronic effects of MBTE. In Berkeley, California there are several sub populations that have a high risk of exposure of MBTE. One group is service station attendants. They have a greater chance than the general population in coming in constant contact with MBTE from exhaust fumes and skin absorption from pumping gas (Williams and Sheehan, pg 97, 2002). The analytical method that could be used to test the concentration levels of MBTE among gas station attendants is obtaining blood samples and using gas chromatography-flame ionization detection. The gas chromatography would subject the samples to a flame causing the MBTE to vaporize. The chromatogram would show the levels of MBTE in each blood samples (Harrison, 2005). It probably is easier to obtain blood samples from healthy individuals. Two important questions to ask the participant would be how long have you been exposed to MBTE and is there a history of respiratory problems such as asthma or bronchitis before or after exposure. Exposure is the length of time a person in which the substance comes in contact with the skin, respiratory tract and lining of the stomach. Dose is the internal consumption of a substance through skin absorption, mouth and breathing (Bates, 2006). To calculate the individual dose is relatively simple. The absorption rate for inhalation is fifty percent. Other parameters need to calculate the dosage is frequency, time, and intake rate and body weight. The researcher would be able to find out this information by asking the participants about exposure time, body weight and the frequency of exposure. The intake rate would have to be calculated using microgram per kilogram per day. This formula will give you the average daily dose or ADD for the individual (Williams and Sheehan, pg 96, 2002). One way to study the exposure rate in service station attendants and also an inexpensive one would be a retrospective cohort studies. A retrospective cohort study uses records to track a specific group through a period of time. These studies are good, cheap, and can study multiple causes of death. Since records are used to tract MBTE exposure then information bias would probably blemish the overall study. Exposure types and the length of time could be misinformed on the health records (Bates, 2006). Every new program involves a risk assessment. A risk assessment is the possibility of harm and the evaluation of the evidence. A risk assessment of the levels of MBTE in drinking water would involve first sampling the water supply in a given area where MBTE is in high usage. The concentration in water must not be above the EPAs recommended level of 4 mg/L of water between one to ten days and 3mg/L for longer times. The area surrounding the contaminated drinking supply would also be tested for exposure rate. Factors that would influence the risk assessment in MBTE are using the assessment to make the best decision for a given area. In this case this could mean to ban MTBE and come up with another clean air alternative. However, cost and society concerns could influence environmental decisions. If alternatives to MBTE prove to be too costly, those consumers may overlook the health concerns of the additive (Wilson, 2006). There are low health risk alternatives that may not be costly. These evidential circumstances bring the harm caused into the ambit of a grievous nature which is governed by section 20 of the OAPA 1861. Section 20 of the OAPA states that: â€Å"Whosoever shall unlawfully and maliciously wound or inflict any grievous bodily harm upon any other person, either with or without any weapon or instrument shall be guilty of an offence and liable to imprisonment for five years.† (Jacqueline, Chris 2011, pp 113-116) It is clear from the section that a few elements wi ll need to be proven against Billy before a case under Section 20 can be made out. The first of these has to be the actus reus. For the purposes of Section 20, the actus reus, or the guilty act, has to consist of wounding which amounts to grievous bodily harm and has been inflicted by the defendant. The requirement of ‘wounding ‘ as defined in the case of Moriarty v Brookes ((1834) 6 C&P 684) states that the continuity of the skin as a whole should be disrupted. It is here to be noted that if the blow of the chair which was enough to land Hilda in a hospital whereby she was unavailable for visitors is a sign that the damage caused to her head would well have caused blood to flow, as might any such act where the impact is so harsh do so. As also mentioned in Section 20, the requirement that a weapon or instrument may have been used also stands proved as Billy used a chair to inflict harm onto Hilda’s person. More essentially, Hilda must prove that the harm caused w as of the category of grievous bodily harm as set out in the OAPA 1861. It has been roughly defined as harm which ‘seriously interferes with health or comfort’ (Ashman, 1858 1 FF 88). Judges have also later refined this definition further in cases like Smith ((1961) AC 290), that the definition need not be confined in any sense; the jury and judge alike must take into account the totality of injuries caused and must consider liability for it accordingly. Here, it is clear that a woman who had to be admitted to the hospital had indeed suffered serious harm which cannot be taken lightly and is does qualify fully the requirement laid down in Section 20 of the infliction of grievous bodily harm. Further, it is necessary to prove that Billy has indeed ‘inflicted’ the injuries on Hilda for which he is to be held liable.
